![]() Unfortunately, for now, the only advantage of WinZip is that it’s still struggling to live, which means that it still has a little bit of hope for its loyal users. Anyway, WinZip used to be the most widely used file archiving tool in the world, and it was the best one all the time at least until the rise of WinRAR. Of course, some users may find it’s not as convenient as the classic bt gone app Springy but its stability is a little better than Springy, especially when you open a very large file package and the functions of BetterZip are more powerful than WinZip. All these made WinZip become the gold standard in the whole industry and was awarded the best boutique utility by PC Magazine. It first started to support the ribbon user interface, decompress the ZIP, CAB, TAR, GZIP, RAR, MIME, lha, 7z, as well as more compressed file formats (and compress only ZIP, zipx and lha), support 128- and 256-bit AES encryption to protect sensitive data, prevent data loss using the automatic data backup function, closely integrate with Windows Explorer (i.e., you don’t have to leave the file manager to perform file compression/decompression operation). It could provide usability, comprehensive functions and very fast compression/decompression speed that any other file archiving utilities could not. WinZip was an original, and the most popular and reliable old brand of file compression/decompression software in the world, developed by WinZip Computing (formerly Nico Mak Computing) in 1991. Finally, it either disappears from the historical stage, or just descends to a bundled software of Corel products line, or derives many trend-following sister products, until finally disappears forever. Even it was acquired by Corel Corporation in 2006, WinZip still has no capability to survive in the file archiving field. Plus the free, open-source and extremely high compression of 7-Zip, WinZip has less future. The reason is very simple, likewise as the pioneer and classical documents packaging & compressing applications, WinZip had been completely defeated by WinRAR for many, many years. At best, it’s to look after the requirements of some Apple OS users. ![]() First of all, I want to explain one thing: releasing a post for WinZip doesn’t mean AppNee accepts it.
